Scripture Memory Verse
"17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Fear not, I am the first and the last, 18and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades." ~ Revelation 1:17-18

Purpose Driven Crap
I just saw these videos posted on a few blogs I read. They're radio broadcasts from The Way of the Master radio program with a clipped Q&A from Rick Warren. If what he's saying is true its very disturbing and sad. Here Willow Creek is finally going off of teaching the bible from the pulpit as its main draw instead of attempting to appeal to the community and failing, and Saddleback is going the opposite direction. Very sad. The first one is around 7 minutes, but is worth watching to know what thousands of Christians are buying into. The second is just a continuation of the first and is not as disturbing, but if you need completion, there it is. Enjoy...I guess that's not the right word. Uh, how about just watch.

Seriously man, I totally disagree with Warren on this, but I cannot think of a worse way to address the issue than the approach taken by the dude on the radio. Take your pick: ignorance or arrogance. We shouldn't have to decide.
Seriously. Even the Piper clip had error, but he wasn't making fun of that. Piper said "what people won't find anywhere else but in the pulpit is what does God has to say." That's only true if you can't read your Bible. I could think of a bunch of ways to launch into that and make Piper look like he doesn't believe in the Bible, like God speaks from the pulpit, not the Word. But instead, this guy is arrogantly and venomously attacking Warren.
Let's correct distortion and false teaching, but I think instead of making myself look clever and godly by ridiculing someone who has poor theology, I should probably humble myself and lovingly pray for him. Even humbly warn other Christians, but not in a mean-spirited fashion.
Anyway, I'm sorry to make my first comment on your site a buzz kill, but it's probably a good discussion to pursue. All right Bert, let me have it...
Very true Mark, very true. While I understand what you're saying, I think it's also important for people to know the false teaching that's out there. It doesn't mean that we need to insult the teacher, just to not be aloof of the teachings. Paul pointed out the same thing, most of the time in a more general manner, but pointed them out nonetheless. Good discussion points!
I agree. Error needs to be seen for what it is and people need to be taught to be discerning.
